The fight yesterday was awesome, and I think Shogun won the fight. I think that Floyd Mayweather vs Oscar de la Hoya was the same, and Wanderlei Silva vs Rich Franklin was the same, and now Lyoto Machida vs Shogun Rua
Dana White always claims that they avoid the errors that boxing makes, but that is not true
Here is how it works, when one fighter is 'the favorite', he usually wins in case of a decision. How can you vote against Floyd Mayweather? How can you vote against Rich? How can you vote against Machida?
So, if I vote against the fighter that people think is the favorite, I am a bad judge
So I think 3 judges is too low, there should be like 20 judges in order to lower the chance of failure
Maybe all the press over there, each one gives their score. The total score of the press equals 40% of the result
then you have, let's say, 10 judges, the total score of them equals 60%
So then, you have 10 judges and let's say 20 specialized press reporters, and then you get a score
I know in my heart Shogun won, he defeated Machida, I am a fanatic of boxing and MMA and I love the sport, the personal opinion of the judges doesn't matters to me
What makes me a little bid sad is Shogun, I've met him personally and he is a great humble guy, he deserved the gold, the extra money the champ gets, and all the money he will get afterward (TV, interviews, advertisement...) because he should be the champ.
So let's say he looses $300k in the following year for not being the champ
That really ****s
Unfortunately being a champ involves earning a lot of money so when they fail, they hurt Shogun financially, and he was a clear winner, kicked Machida in the 5th round so much, Machida looked like a rag doll trying to escape
I wouldn't be surprised if Dana White makes a rematch in the next 4-5 months, but clearly the sport won't grow as much as it should, because it's the same fiasco as boxing, the judges always favor some fighters even before the fight begins
